how to crochet an easy zigzag striped hairband | beginner-friendly tutorial + free pattern (step-by-step)

 



Hi everyone! :) Here is the written pattern for my easy zigzag striped hairband. This is one of my favorite dreamy projects, perfect for adding a bit of soft inspiration to your daily style. This project is very beginner-friendly and creates a beautiful, cozy texture that looks much more complex than it actually is.

Materials:

1. Yarn in three (or more) contrasting colors to highlight the zigzag stripes.
2. Crochet hook (refer to your yarn label for the best size).
3. Yarn needle & scissors.

Abbreviations:

ch - chain
slst - slip stitch
sc - single crochet (or the specific stitch used in your video)
st - stitch
inc - increase
dec - decrease


1. The Foundation

Start by making a slip knot and creating a foundation chain that fits comfortably around your head (I did 75ch)

Ensure the chain count is compatible with the zigzag striped pattern repeat (refer to 0:36 of the video for the exact multiple)

2. The Zigzag Body

Round 1: Ch1 to start the height of your row, then begin the zigzag sequence by alternating increases and decreases after every 6sc to create the "peaks" and "valleys".

Follow this pattern for all the Rows: ch1, (6sc, inc, 6sc, dec)*5

Color Switching: To get the best striped effect, switch your yarn color at the end of the round or every few rounds.

Continue repeating the zigzag rows until the hairband reaches your desired width.

3.  Finishing Touches

Once you are happy with the width, finish the final round with ch1.
Fasten off your yarn and leave a small tail.

Use a yarn needle to weave in all your loose ends from the color changes to keep the headband looking clean and professional.


Style Tip: These look amazing in pastel "dreamy" colors or bold contrasting stripes!
